Is it a case of out with the old, in with the new for you this January? Or how about just out with the old?
De-cluttering is a really worthwhile way to spend some time in January. People often find that when they de-clutter, life gets easier overall. It takes less time to find things, your home looks cleaner and you don’t end up having to buy duplicates of items that you already own because you couldn’t find them!
Here are our tips for de-cluttering:
1. De-cluttering can be quite an exhausting task because you are making hundreds and hundreds of decisions (keep, throw away, charity shop etc), so take it on in small doses – one room, or even just one drawer at a time.
2. Enlist the help of a friend. A friend will not have the emotional attachment to items (“But I wore that at my 21st party!”).
3. Make the most of cloud storage. Old photos can take up a lot of room – it’s the same with CDs, films and books. Store what you can online.
4. Label all your paperwork and store in box files. This is the most rewarding job to do as it means you’ll never have to sift through piles of paperwork to find the document you want.
Of course once you have all these lovely, cleared shelves in your home, you’ll need to give them a quick lick of polish. Maid Simple’s furniture polish is ideal for all sealed surface and gives a sweet-scented, instant shine.
